Silo House: From Grain Silo to Modern Home

Andrea | 06/16/2026

The Silo House is a striking example of adaptive reuse, transforming an old industrial grain silo into a compact modern home in Phoenix, Arizona.

Designed by Kaiserworks, this project preserves the original cylindrical steel structure and reimagines it as a livable space. Instead of demolishing the silo, the design works with its form, turning the curved shell into the defining feature of the home.

The result is a small-footprint residence that feels both industrial and warm, with a strong architectural identity rooted in its original purpose.

Inside, the circular layout naturally shapes the living experience. Spaces are arranged vertically and around the curve of the silo, creating a compact but functional flow between living, sleeping, and utility areas. Carefully placed openings bring in natural light, softening the steel structure and making the interior feel more open than expected.

The contrast between the rugged exterior and the refined interior design gives the home its unique character, blending history with modern minimal living.

  • Adaptive reuse of an industrial silo structure

  • Strong architectural form with minimal footprint

  • Smart use of vertical and curved interior space

  • Natural light enhances the interior atmosphere

  • Unique balance of industrial and modern design

The Silo House shows how thoughtful design can turn forgotten structures into beautiful, livable spaces.
