House Zilvar: A Tiny Home Inspired by a Child's Imagination

Not every tiny home starts with an architect's sketch. Sometimes, the best ideas come from a child's imagination.

Nestled among the fields and forests of eastern Czechia, House Zilvar is an 83 m² (893 sq. ft.) timber home designed by ASGK Design for a family seeking a simpler, more connected way of living. What makes it truly unique is its distinctive folded roofline, inspired by the owners' four-year-old son, who imagined a house that would lean toward the massive oak tree standing beside it.

The result is a home that feels playful, organic, and deeply connected to its surroundings. From different angles, the roof appears to shift and twist, framing views of the countryside while creating a sense of movement throughout the structure. Large windows and sliding glass doors blur the line between indoors and outdoors, bringing natural light and garden views into every corner of the home.

Inside, the layout is remarkably simple. The main floor combines the living room, dining area, and kitchen into one open space, while two sleeping lofts overlook the shared living area from opposite ends of the house. This arrangement was intentionally designed to encourage family interaction while still providing private sleeping spaces.

Despite its compact size, House Zilvar feels larger than its footprint suggests. Consistent flooring extends from the interior to the covered terrace, while expansive glazing creates long sightlines to the surrounding landscape. The home demonstrates how thoughtful design can make a small space feel bright, open, and comfortable.

Sustainability was also a key priority. The timber-framed structure was built to a low-energy standard, featuring thick insulation, triple-glazed windows, passive solar design, and sliding wooden shutters that help regulate indoor temperatures throughout the year.

House Zilvar is a reminder that tiny living does not require sacrificing creativity. Through clever architecture, natural materials, and a strong connection to nature, this small home delivers a living experience that feels anything but small.
